Rachel Downs-Doubrava
Director, Teacher
Master of Fine Arts: Painting and Drawing and
Master of Visual Art Education: Instruction and Curriculum K-12.
Rachel’s super power is her cat-like reflexes.
Teaching Philosophy: A child’s exposure to religious education is vital to their understanding of culture, history, and human nature. Throughout history, religion has molded our context, culture, and systems. an avoidance of exposure to this expression narrows a child’s scope of understanding and their ability to see the world while appreciating their personal and communal religious identity.
A competent religious education should focus on torah, jewish values, tradition, and ritual. Curriculum should be designed to enhance and inspire the individual and collaborative processes of students, instigate thought provoking inquiries, and redefine culture and history through a jewish lens. The jewish religious classroom should reflect a respectful, open-minded, and safe environment for students to create, learn, and express.
For Rachel, Judaism is what keeps her grounded, keeps her connected to the higher power. Judaism’s preciosity in her life comes from her family, friends, and love for G-d.

Bailey Kivett
Teacher- emphasis in tradition and visual art
Bachelor of Fine Arts-metalsmithing and Bachelor of Visual Art Education K-12
Bailey’s super power is thinking on her feet. Flexibility and creativity flow!
Bailey loves the moments of magic in art and education. The pride a student feels when a connection is made, when they can answer a question thoughtfully, or make something beautiful!
Bailey can often be heard humming the tune of “Tradition” from The Fiddler on the Roof. This idea resonates deep in her soul, from Friday Night Dinners at her Grandmother’s table to the calm and familiarity of a song sung at various speeds and tunes by a community during worship.

Benjamin Rosenthal
Teacher- emphasis in the musical arts
Bachelor of Fine Arts - Painting and Performance Art -Minoring in Art Education.
Graduate Studies in Orff Music Education
Benjamin’s Super power is breaking out an infectiously joyous sing-along at the drop of a hat and frequently being emotionally available.
Benjamin’s teaching philosophy is ‘if you had fun, you won.’
For Benjamin, Judaism is a centuries old Ashkenazi Jewish life and tradition. Judaism is sown into the fabric of 4 generations of his New York family, rich with musical and cultural traditions. Judaism means signing your prayers and listening with your heart. Growing up in a Jewish family makes you always look for the truth. It makes you look forward to celebrating the stories and songs that remind you to be proud of who you are and where you came from. Never take it for granted.
As three wise Jewish men once said ‘You’ve gotta fight for your right to party.’

Sol Landman-Feldman
Teacher-emphasis in Hebrew and Preschool
Sophomore at KU
Sol’s superpower is being very good at navigating directions, except when he gets lost.
Sol believes that it is important that students make sure they understand the material and its significance, rather than just learning it. It is possible to have so many more interesting conversations when one is able to think critically.
For Sol, Judaism has provided him with an immeasurable sense of community, wonderful friends, and shared values. Sol also greatly appreciates the richness and history of Jewish traditions, and the wide breadth of different practices that all come together to make Judaism beautiful.
